Starcraft 2 - insider interview and new unit added
Blizzard made it public interview with their cinematic creative director - Nick Carpenter on official Starcraft 2 web site yesterday . I found this page few days ago (thanks google ;) ) but only yesterday was information about it added to Site Updates section.
Nick explained why he decided for the genesis of a marine and how his team and game design team work together on movie. Next he said something about storytelling techniques in Starcraft 2. We can expect a very good quality pre-rendered cinematic and probably a lot of in-game cut-scenes too (thanks to new 3D engine).
In the last part of interview they discussed about technologies used to create trailer. They have problems with rendering marine scenes because of huge complexity (approx. 5.000.000 polygons used). They probably will use software developed by Pixar.
Good news is that tools which they use for in-game cut-scenes will be released for players. You can read more here.
New unit was added to the protoss section - Phoenix. It’s a Air Superiority Fighter and some pictures were added too.
